Domestic Violence Victim Shot, Stabbed In Maplewood: Police
Nyesha Allen, of Newark, is in custody with charged pending, police said.
MAPLEWOOD, NJ - A 28-year-old Newark resident is in custody after a shooting and stabbing assault in an domestic violence incident on Springfield Avenue in Maplewood Wednesday morning, according to Maplewood Police Chief Jim DeVaul.
Nyesha Allen has charges pending, DeVaul said.
Shortly after 7:30 a.m. the Maplewood Police Department received several 911 calls of gunshots in the area of 1701 Springfield Ave. and when officers arrived to the scene they found an adult female victim with multiple gunshot and stab wounds, police said.

DeVaul said the victim was able to motion to officers that Allen had fled through the rear of the parking garage and officers in the area were able to locate Allen by matching the clothing description provided by the witnesses.
Officers stopped Allen on Hilton Avenue and Allen was found in possession of a 22 Cal. handgun and a knife. Allen was taken into custody and through investigation it was later determined that the victim and Allen are known to each other and it was a domestic related incident, DeVaul said.

The victim is receiving treatment at Rutgers Hospital.
South Orange-Maplewood Superintendent of Schools Ronald Taylor sent a message to parents informing them that the district was aware of the situation.
"The safety of our students and staff is always the highest priority for the South Orange-Maplewood School District. We continue to work in close coordination with the Maplewood Police Department to ensure a seamless and coordinated effort in protecting our school commu11ity," Taylor said. "We have appropriate security measures in place at each of our schools on a daily basis."
DeVaul said that with the suspect in custody there is no reason to believe there is any further danger.
