Dozen Events Still On Tap For Black History Month In Maplewood

Exhibits, virtual chats, and a march on the 10th anniversary of Trayvon Martin's death are still on tap for Black History Month in SoMa.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Virtual chats, kids' events, readings, exhibits, panels, and a march are still on tap for Black History Month in Maplewood.

Among upcoming events, the documentary "John Lewis: Good Trouble," will be screened this Friday at The Woodland in the Great Hall in Maplewood. The event is sponsored by Maplewood Community Services.

The documentary is "An intimate account of legendary U.S. Representative John Lewis’ life, legacy and more than 60 years of extraordinary activism, from the bold teenager on the front lines of the Civil Rights movement to the legislative powerhouse he was throughout his career."

Also later this month, SoMa Justice will coordinate a walk for Trayvon Martin on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 6 p.m., the 10th anniversary of the day Martin was killed.

"Walk as a group to the where leaders will share the events of the night that he died," says the announcement. "Finally, we will celebrate his birthday and hold a vigil to remember his unjust death." Register here.
