Gaining Skills For Professional Success At Bloomfield College

Bloomfield College's Office of International Training and Professional Studies has been a pioneer in creating global and local partnerships

Today, colleges and universities are working to provide training programs to corporations, and for good reason. According to a 2013 report by The Center on Education and the Workforce at Georgetown University, there will be 55 million job openings in the United States by 2020, and 65 percent of them will require post-secondary education and/or training beyond high school. Many companies, however, have difficulty finding the right employees with the right skills. Lifelong learning, including corporate training is becoming critical to obtaining new and marketable skills and to developing an educated workforce.

Bloomfield College’s Office of International Training and Professional Studies has been a pioneer in building strong partnerships with corporations and educating working adults in northern New Jersey. Since 1997 ITPS, headed by Peter Jeong, vice president of Global Programs & Professional Studies, has been a leader in corporate training, professional studies programs, and international programs. ITPS also has an American Language Center which offers an extensive year round English Language Program.

These programs provide a great way for individuals, companies and their employees to obtain the skills needed in today’s economy. Certificate programs, for example, are one way to prepare for and achieve career readiness. These certifications are an effective way to build skills and gain a nationally recognized credential that acts as proof of that skill.

Finally, for many of students taking part in ITPS’ international program, it is their first time away from home, family, and friends. The international program’s Homestay option is designed to help new students ease into their life in Bloomfield and to get to know their new neighborhood. Host families get a chance to not only discover new cultures, traditions and languages, but also to help international students become part of Bloomfield and the rest of New Jersey. To learn more about becoming a host family, email Rachel Babich or call 973-748-9000 (ext. 1480).
