Juvenile Charged in Two Robberies at Elmwood Near Boyden

The following arrest information was supplied by the Maplewood Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A boy who was a part of a group of 5 or 6 youngsters involved in two robberies on July 5 has been detained and charged by Maplewood Police.

According to the Maplewood Police, the group first approached a man riding his bicycle in the area of Boyden Avenue and Elmwood Avenue at approximately 7:20 p.m. on July 5 and asked to use his cell phone. When the man said “no,” one of the boys grabbed his black Trek Mountain Bike and fled on Orchard Road.

Next, the group approached another man at about 7:30 p.m. The man was walking on Boyden Avenue near Meadowbrook Place. The boys demanded his cell phone and then began punching him in the face.

Sgt. Dean Naddeo of the Maplewood PD reports that the victim sustained a cut over his eye and several bruises to his head and was transported to the hospital for treatment. The suspects were unable to get the cell phone from the victim.

Subsequent to investigation by the Maplewood Police, a male juvenile was detained and charged in relation to the incidents.
