Man Jailed After Shoplifting Arrest: Maplewood Police

Dion Montgomery was caught hiding in a yard, police said.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ - A 48-year-old Newark man was arrested and charged with shoplifting after an incident with police on April 24.

According to authorities, Dion Montgomery was arrested for shoplifting at the Rite Aid store on South Orange Avenue. Employees called 911 to report the incident and gave a description of the suspect and officers observed Montgomery hiding in a yard on Milligan Place where he was arrested, police said.

All of the stolen items, approximately $400 worth of cough medicine, was also recovered in the yard.

Montgomery was wanted by the Essex County Sheriff's Department and ultimately transported to the County Jail, police said.
