Maplewood Police Issue Community Crime Alert

The PD is asking for residents' help in combatting recent burglaries and thefts from unlocked autos.

 

On Friday afternoon, April 6, Maplewood Police Chief Robert Cimino issued a Community Crime Alert informing residents that police are currently investigating recent thefts from unlocked vehicles and burglaries in various neighborhoods throughout town and urging residents to improve their home and auto security.

The alert stated that the crimes are occurring mostly between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Items being stolen include cash and coins, GPS navigational devices and other small electronics.

Although police say that they have recently arrested one known offender for several of these recent crimes, Cimino reports in the alert that thefts from unlocked vehicles and burglaries are continuing. The alert states that additional patrols have been assigned to combat these crimes.

Residents are urged to doing the following:

  • Lock homes and vehicles every night;
  • Immediately report suspicious persons or suspicious activity by calling the Maplewood Police Department at 973-762-1234;
  • Remove GPS units and other valuables from your car; and
  • Consider installing motion-activated exterior lighting or illuminating your parking area or entrances to your home at night.
