Maplewood Police Make Narcotics Arrests

Updated: Charges were dismissed.

A young man from Union and a young woman from Maplewood were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana last Wednesday in Maplewood.

On August 17, Maplewood police responded to the area of Manley Terrace where a group of two adults and four 17 year olds had been reported to be smoking marijuana.

At the scene, Maplewood Police Officer Peter Kuenzel discovered a plastic bag containing a quantity of marijuana and placed the six under arrest. An 18-year-old man from Union, and an 18 year-old-woman from Maplewood, were each charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia.  They were issued a summons for court and released. The charges were later dismissed.

The four 17 year olds, who were from Maplewood, Springfield, Union and Irvington, were released to their parents pending charges from the Maplewood Police Youth Aid Bureau.
