More Details on Saturday's Carjacking
The suspect is still at large, but the police have released a description.

A Maplewood man who was carjacked at gunpoint on Saturday afternoon was unharmed but his assailant remains at large, according to Maplewood police.
Maplewood Police Sgt. Dean Naddeo reports the victim was approached at approximately 2:04 p.m. on June 25, near the intersection of Beach and Academy streets in Maplewood — near the board of education building.
The victim reported a dark colored SUV, possibly a Land Rover, pulled around his BMW and stopped. A man exited the SUV, approached the BMW, and pointed a rifle-type weapon at the victim. The suspect demanded the vehicle and the victim's wallet before fleeing the area. The victim was not injured.

The suspect is described as a black man, 6’ tall, approximately 180 lbs., wearing a red and black flannel shirt, green cargo pants and a hat with braided hair protruding from under it and a bandanna covering his face.
Newark police subsequently pursued the BMW which was involved in a crash in the city of Newark. Maplewood police are directing inquiries to Newark police or the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office for further information on the vehicle recovery. Patch is awaiting further information from the prosecutor’s office.

June 20, 2011: Narcotics Arrest. Officers responded to a Parker Avenue location on a report of narcotics activity in a stairway. Officers saw three men in the stairway rolling a suspected marijuana cigar. They were each subsequently arrested and charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams.
June 21, 2011: Theft. An Oakview Avenue resident reported the theft of a safe from his residence. The safe contained $600 in cash and a month supply of assorted prescription medications. There were no signs of forced entry to the residence.
June 22, 2011: Theft. A female student reported her cellphone, cargo shorts and keys were stolen from the gym at Columbia High School.
