Police Chief's Home Safety Checklist
Police will do their part to patrol your neighborhood. But you can do your part to secure your home.

The Police have also offered to come to neighbors' home to perform home safety audits. The service is ongoing and available to all Maplewood residents. Call the Maplewood Police department to schedule an appointment at 973-762-3400, ext. 7620.
In the meantime, Maplewood Chief of Police Robert Cimino recommends the following actions to secure your home:

- cut back your shrubs
- add exterior lighting
- install quality lock on doors
- put timers on your inside lights
- install an alarm system and activate it
- investigate window bolts and devices that stop windows from being raised more than a few inches
- Stop your mail and newspaper delivery when you are away—or have a neighbor collect your mail, newspaper and packages
- Leave the radio on and tuned to a talk-radio or news station when you are out
- Start and/or join a Neighborhood Watch group (for information on how to do this, call 973-762-3400, ext. 7620)
"When you are being good neighbors and using home security tactics, criminals go from house to house and keep finding deterrents," said Cimino. "They then will walk out of your neighborhood."
