Police Promotions a Family Affair at Township Meeting

Sgt. Joshua Cummis, Sgt. John Tutunjian and Sgt. Dean Naddeo became lieutenants — amidst the an appreciative audience of friends and family.

Three Maplewood Police Department sergeants achieved the rank of lieutenant at the Jan. 17, 2012 Maplewood Township Committee meeting.

Joshua Cummis, John Tutunjian and Dean Naddeo all were approved by the Township Committee and sworn in with their families at their sides. Many members of the extended Maplewood Police Department family were also in attendance to applaud the men.

Each officer spoke briefly after his swearing-in. Lt. Cummis said he looked forward to continuing his work at the Maplewood PD and would do so to "the best of my ability." Tutunjian thanked his family for their support during the months of study for the exam. Naddeo particularly thanked his 8-year-old daughter Madison, whom he called his training coach.

As Mayor Vic DeLuca read the "resolution appointing Sgt. Dean L. Naddeo to Lieutenant of the Maplewood Police Department," Mrs. Naddeo leaned in to her 4-year-old son Trent and said, "That's Daddy!"
