Police See Man Walking In Stolen Sandals: Maplewood Crime Roundup

The Maplewood police released a roundup of thefts and burglaries for the first week in May.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — The Maplewood police released these details from reports for the first week in May:

At approximately 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, Maplewood officers responded to an apartment on Springfield Avenue for a burglary. Someone stole a cream-colored baby bag containing personal items as well as a pair of men’s red, white, and blue sandals, the victim said. A short time later, officers stopped a man who was wearing the same sandals, police said. Richard Santoro of East
Orange, 65, was charged with burglary and released with a court date.

On Friday, May 5, Maplewood police officers responded to a residence on Indiana Street for a
theft of a “For Sale” sign and a Realtor key box. These items were last seen in front of the residence on May 2.

On Sunday, May 7, Maplewood Police Officers responded to a residence on Porter Road regarding an attempted car theft. During the overnight hours, the window of a 2017 Kia Forte was broken and entry was made into the vehicle. The ignition was also damaged in the attempt to steal the car, police said. No items were reported missing.

Also that day, a Springfield Avenue resident reported that her work laptop was taken from a parked and unlocked Nissan Altima.

On Monday, May 8, police responded to a residence on Millburn Avenue for a motor vehicle theft. The victim said that a 2021 Kia Sport had been parked in a Millburn Avenue parking lot at 7 p.m., and was discovered missing at 10:40. Police said that it looked like the person broke a car window to get in.
