Three October workshops invite New Jersey adults to explore pottery and mixed media collage
Led by Essex County artist Simone Anthony-Brown, the beginner-friendly workshops offer experiences in clay and collage
ESSEX COUNTY, NJ, September 26, 2026 — Artist and teaching artist Simone Anthony-Brown, Founder of Express Yourself Studios, will lead three hands-on workshops this October in South Orange and Morristown. Each offers a starting point, guidance throughout the session, and room for participants to make the work their own. No previous art experience is required.
Wednesday, October 7 — Adult Hand Building Pottery: Functional Forms
7:00–9:00 p.m. | Columbia High School | South Orange Maplewood Adult School

Participants will learn foundational hand-building techniques with air-dry clay and choose to make a vase, planter, tray, bowl, or decorative container. Materials are included. Register through the South Orange Maplewood Adult School using class code 0306.
Thursday, October 15 — Layered Landscapes: A Mixed Media Collage Workshop

6:30–8:30 p.m. | Creative In Common, 86 Sloan Street, South Orange
Participants will use painted papers, collage materials, acrylic paint, color, and texture to create a landscape-inspired artwork. Materials are included. The workshop is for adults 18 and older, with a maximum of 10 participants. Registration through Express Yourself Studios is scheduled to close October 1 or when the workshop fills.
Sunday, October 18 — Create & Grow: Hand-Built Clay Pottery Workshop
11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. | South Street Gardens, 383 South Street, Morristown
Participants will shape and decorate an air-dry clay planter using hand-building techniques, tools, and stamps. A 4-inch plant provided by South Street Gardens is included to pair with the handmade planter. Materials are included; no pottery wheel is needed. Register through Express Yourself Studios.
