Two Teens Robbed in Memorial Park

The following arrest information was supplied by the Maplewood Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Two teenagers where robbed of their backpacks, cellphones and a skate board just before 11 p.m. last Thursday night in Memorial Park in Maplewood.

The boys — one from Maplewood and one from South Orange  — were near the duck pond on Sept. 2 when they were approached by two black males, approximately ages 16 to 17, who demanded their belongings. Both boys were punched on the side of the head before turning over their possessions. One of the attackers wore a white t-shirt and the other a black t-shirt. They were last seen running towards the rear of the main branch of the Maplewood Library.

Other items on this week's blotter, which was sent by Maplewood Police Capt. Paul Conlon, include two home burglaries — one on Princeton Street and the other on Irvington Avenue — as well narcotics arrests of local teenagers in Memorial Park:

August 30, 2011: Burglary- A resident of Princeton St reported to Police that sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. an unknown actor entered into her home and removed some jewelry from her second floor bedroom. Officers were able to determine that entry was made through an open basement window with the actor proceeding to the second floor bedrooms to search for valuables.

September 3, 2011: Burglary- A Maplewood woman reported to Police that she was sitting in her Irvington Ave bedroom at approximately 2:20 in the afternoon when she heard a banging sound coming from another part of the house.  When she went to investigate the noise she observed a black male in her daughter’s bedroom window making his escape from the home.  The black male, in his late teens, wearing a black hat and a black tank top, was able to steal a lap top computer from the bedroom before he left. Detectives investigating the incident determined that the subject gained entry to the house by removing an air conditioner from the first-floor bedroom window.

September 3, 2011: Narcotics Arrest- Patrols were conducting an inspection of Memorial Park just before 11:00 pm due to recent incidents there and located four teens in possession of alcohol and marijuana. Two of the teens, both from South Orange, were charged with Possession of Marijuana under 50 gms, and Underage Consumption of Alcohol. One teen from Maplewood was charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Under Age Consumption of Alcohol. Another teen from Maplewood was charged with Underage Consumption of Alcohol. The four teens were also issued summonses for a violation of a Township Ordinance for being in the park after hours. All four were issued a court date for their charges and later released.
