Water Boil Advisory Lifted for Maplewood, Millburn and Irvington

Cause of water main break on Saturday is still unknown.

The boil water alert is over for residents of Maplewood, Millburn and Irvington.

On Sunday, New Jersey American Water lifted a day-old warning for the three municipalities, telling customers that “it is no longer necessary to boil your water before using.”

The alert was issued in the wake of a massive water main burst on Saturday, which caused flooding throughout town and forced multiple home evacuations. [See related Patch article]

“The precautionary boil water advisory was issued after a loss of water pressure following a 24-inch water main break along Glen Avenue in Millburn,” NJAW stated on its website on Sunday. “We are pleased to report that the repairs have been completed and subsequent water quality testing shows the water quality to be safe.”

The cause of the break remains under investigation, according to an Associated Press report.
