2 Seriously Hurt In Possible Hit-And-Run In Marlboro: Police

Both were hospitalized, including one via helicopter, after their van overturned, police said.

MARLBORO, NJ — Two people were hospitalized after their van overturned Sunday morning on State Highway 18 North. Marlboro police are investigating the crash as a possible hit-and-run.

Police received word of the overturned van at about 6:45 a.m. Sunday. The crash took place on State Highway 18 North between County Route 537 and State Highway 79.

The driver and passenger sustained "serious injuries," police said. Officials extricated the driver from the van and took him by medevac helicopter to Jersey Shore Medical Center. An ambulance took the passenger to the same hospital.

Their identities remain confidential pending notification of family members. The highway reopened at about 8:45 a.m.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation, but another vehicle may have caused it, police said. Cpl. David Ruditsky of the Marlboro Township Police Traffic and Safety Bureau is investigating the crash.

Responding agencies included the Marlboro Township Police Department, NJ State Police, Marlboro Township First Aid Squad, Colts Neck First Aid Squad, Marlboro Fire Department, Robertsville Volunteer Fire Company, Colts Neck Fire Company, paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson Hospital and Hackensack Meridian Hospital. The State Department of Transportation assisted with temporarily closing the highway.
