Colts Neck Man, 76, Killed In Fire In His Home

His wife got out safely, but Joseph Apisa was trapped inside his first-floor bedroom when the flames broke out, said the county prosecutor.

COLTS NECK, NJ — The man who was killed in the Colts Neck fire early Tuesday morning has been identified as Joseph Apisa, 76, the Monmouth County prosecutor's office announced Wednesday. His wife was able to escape the burning home, but he remained trapped inside his bedroom and was unable to out, said law enforcement.

The fire at 42 Raven Road in Colts Neck broke out at 2:22 a.m. Tuesday. Police received a 911 call from Rosemary Apisa, 75, who said her home was on fire.

First responders attempted to gain access to the two-story home but were unsuccessful due to the intensity of the blaze.

Mrs. Apisa was taken to Jersey Shore Medical University for smoke inhalation and released. Tragically, her husband was trapped inside his first-floor bedroom when the flames broke out and was later found deceased, said the county prosecutor.

The Raven Road home was completely destroyed due to the fire. The cause is still under investigation at this time but the fire has been deemed not to be suspicious, said the prosecutor.
