Colts Neck Superintendent Gears Up For The New Year

Dr. Oberkehr sent a letter to parents, outlining his goals for the upcoming 2012-13 school year.

Colts Neck students are gearing up for another school year, and Superintendent Dr. Fred Oberkehr is eager to accomplish his goals.

The first day of school in Colts Neck is Thursday, Sept. 6. and to get ready, Oberkehr sent a letter to parents outlining his goals and wishes for the year.

Oberkehr announced in the letter that Dr. James Osmond was chosen by the Board of Education as the new principal of . Osmond was a teacher and administrator in his last position in Howell Township as Supervisor of Mathematics and Science.

This year, Oberkehr announced two of his main goals are to establish Professional Learning Communities and Differentiated Instruction. The first promotes conversation between teachers about student performance, the latter embraces compiling instruction strategies and remaining focused on the new and best ways to teach students.

The Superintendent also outlined strategic planning behind curriculum and instruction, including Core Curriculum Standards that will surround professional development seminars throughout the year. The Core Curriculum Standards dictate common standards across the state, and Oberkehr said professional development will promote cross grade and department articulation.

Genesis, the student database allowing parents to access attendance records and report cards, will be available for parents of  and students. The system is complete. Oberkehr also announced that within a few weeks, parents will receive automated phone calls when they children are absent from school.
