Escaped Inmate Who Previously Burglarized Marlboro Biz Recaptured

David Mordukhaev, 30, was missing from the correctional facility for hours before officials located him near his Brooklyn home.

MARLBORO, NJ - A New York City inmate previously imprisoned on charges relating to a burglary at a Marlboro Township pharmacy was recaptured last week after escaping Vernon C. Bain Correctional Facility on a barge.

David Mordukhaev, 30, was located near his Brooklyn, N.Y. home and arrested by members of the Regional Fugitive Task Force after fleeing the Bronx-based correctional facility earlier on Saturday. He is being held awaiting trial on charges relating to a 2020 incident in which he robbed a man in Brooklyn while impersonating a cop, according to the New York Daily News.

In 2013, Mordukhaev was previously sentenced to 65 months in federal prison for burglarizing Union Hill-Supremo Pharmacy and subsequently selling the prescription medications - including Oxycodone - obtained from the heist. Read more: Brooklyn Man Sentenced for Marlboro Pharmacy Theft

The publication reports that prison staff noted Mordukhaev’s whereabouts, but it’s believed that guards didn’t actually check to see where he was. It was only until a second call from federal investigators at around 4:30 a.m. prompted the search for the Brooklyn man.
