Four Arrested In Connection With Marlboro Elderly Scam
Four New York men were arrested on Tuesday as part of a scam that targeted an elderly Marlboro resident.
MARLBORO, NJ – Four individuals were arrested on Tuesday in connection to a scam targeting the elderly.
A 77-year-old Morganville woman reported to police on June 23 that an anonymous caller stated that her grandson had been arrested. The caller then demanded bail money from the resident, stating that the money was required for her grandson to be released. She was instructed not to tell anyone about her grandson’s arrest. When the victim made contact with the relative and learned that he was not arrested, she contacted police.
Four male suspects arrived at the victim’s house to collect the money. All were arrested without incident. The suspects were later processed and released on a summons.

According to officials, there has been an increase in scams of a similar nature in the past few years. Last week, a separate scam was reported by the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office in which an anonymous caller identified himself as Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden. According to a statement released on social media, a number of county residents have reported the scam. The anonymous caller will falsely inform victims that there is a warrant out for the recipients’ arrest and demands a fine to be paid.
“This is a misrepresentation,” the Sheriff’s office said in the post. “Under no circumstances does anyone from the MCSO ever call a resident regarding an arrest warrant or ask for money. If you have become a victim contact local police immediately.”
