K9 Bolo Comes To The Rescue To Locate Man Missing In Marlboro

After a resident with dementia wandered from his home, Bolo, the Marlboro Police Department K9, successfully tracked the missing man.

MARLBORO, NJ — Bolo, the Marlboro Police Department K9, deserved his recent attention on Facebook after he successfully tracked a man who wandered away from his home, police said.

The family of a man with dementia called police after the man had walked away from his house and could not be located recently. He was missing for 20 minutes, police said.

Called out to the the scene, patrol officers began to search the area. Meanwhile Patrolman Joshua Abrahamson and his K9 partner Bolo were called in, said Capt. Stephen J. Levy, Support Services Section Commander.

Bolo is a five-year old male Belgian Malinois. He has been on the force for 3 1/2 years, and police agree he is much beloved and respected among the ranks. Bolo graduated K9 Academy in 2019.

Bolo and Abrahamson performed a track that led police to the man who was found unresponsive, lying in a landscaping bed.

The man was treated at the scene until first aid arrived and brought him to the hospital, averting what could have been a tragedy, police said.

“We are extremely grateful for the services and specialized training of our K9, Bolo. He is a tremendous asset for Marlboro Township and the residents of this community. Without his skills, this incident could have ended in tragedy,” said Chief Peter Pezzullo.

Officer Abrahamson is Bolo's handler and has been with the department for eight years, assigned to the Patrol Division in Marlboro, Levy said.

Bolo is certified in explosives, tracking articles and apprehension. He has successfully tracked approximately eight to 10 people in his career, Levy said, adding that Bolo is the department's only K9.
