Local Seniors and Preschoolers Bridge the Generational Gap
The Goddard School in Morganville celebrate Halloween with it's new neighbors.
Carol Vargo, owner of The Goddard School, believes children of all ages should have the opportunity to celebrate Halloween, so this year she is sharing her school’s Halloween Parade with its new neighbors, the residents of the Solana Assisted Living Center. After the children show off their Halloween costumes to their young-at-heart neighbors, they will participate in a “Trick or Trunk” celebration, a fun twist on traditional Trick or Treating.
“Children and seniors get a huge kick out of each other,” said Vargo. “The seniors love the warm, joyful reactions they get from the children, and vice versa. This kind of intergenerational interaction helps foster increased feelings of self-esteem in both groups.”
“This is the first step in what will be a mutually beneficial relationship,” she adds. “We are going to plan more visits to Solana Assisted Living in the future and hope to have the children and seniors participate in activities such as dancing, painting and storytelling.”
