Marlboro Costco Offers Wholesale Prices to Warehouse Members

The chain warehouse store is over a month old, and pleasing its members so far

The doors of the new in Marlboro have been open for over a month, and the parking lot is still full throughout the day.  Located where the Regal Cinema once resided, on the boundary of the township and Old Bridge at Route 9 and Texas Road, the warehouse has been an attraction since its grand opening July 6.

Costco is a membership warehouse known for bringing its members wholesale prices on brand-name merchandise.  It offers specialty departments and exclusive services, all designed to make Costco a one-stop shopping destination.

The Marlboro Costo hired 140 new employees as of its opening.

Aside from the variety of bulk food, buyers can find a bakery; meat, produce and deli departments; electronics, media and furniture as well as an optical shop, one-hour photo, pharmacy, tire center, hearing aid center and a food court.

As with all Costos, customers are required to purchase an annual $50 membership in order to shop. Prescription medicine from the pharmacy and liquor are exempt from membership, as is the use of its gas station located in front of the warehouse, which has some of the most inexpensive fuel prices on its section of Route 9.

Local residents are thrilled to find the wholesaler in their neck of the woods.  "I no longer have to drive all the way to Hazlet for my bulk purchases,” said Tom Martini of Morganville. “It’s so much more convenient. I’ve stopped in twice, and while it’s been bustling with shoppers, I had a smooth experience.”

Ian Gonzalez of Freehold is also pleased with the new store. “I was excited when I heard Costco was coming to town,” he said.  “At first I thought traffic was going to be an issue, but the town recently added another lane near the store, so it’s been great.”

Gonzalez is not alone with his concerns about traffic.

Kathy K. of Marlboro thought it could end up being an issue but said, “So far, so good.  Sometimes I’ll take back roads to avoid Route 9 during rush hour, but it’s always been that way.  Costco hasn’t really made a difference in that respect.”

Michael Hegarty of Old Bridge has found the same to be true.  He noted, “I drive from Old Bridge to Freehold and back via Route 9 for work, but the traffic hasn’t changed much since Costco opened.”

The Marlboro Costo warehouse is located at 12 Route 9 North in Morganville. For information about membership, visit costco.com.
