MARLBORO, N.J.— A special meeting of the Township Council planned for Thursday, June 2, to gather public input about the township emergency dispatch services has been cancelled. There has been discussion of transferring services to Monmouth County.

No new date has been set, according to the township. No action was initially planned for the meeting. The agenda originally said there would be a presentation regarding "public safety communications system upgrades" by the Marlboro Township Police Department. Then a "citizen's voice" portion, which would be followed by a council discussion.

The next regularly scheduled council meeting is at 7 p.m. June 16.

Mayor Jonathan Hornik, who does not support changing the dispatch system, said it needs improvements to its radio system and that the council would have to approve a capital expense resolution either to upgrade the current system or pay for Monmouth County to take over dispatch services.

"I feel we have a very capable, very good" staff of dispatchers, Hornik has said in past interviews.
