Aggravated Manslaughter Charge For Marlboro Man In New Year's Day Death
Police found the 64-year-old victim unresponsive with "severe trauma to his head, face, and neck" on Monday, the prosecutor's office said.
MARLBORO, NJ — An early New Year's Day assault at a Marlboro residence left a man with fatal injuries, and officials have charged another occupant of the home with aggravated manslaughter.
The Monmouth County Prosecutor's office said officials had been investigating the death of 64-year-old George Mott III, who was found "with severe trauma to his head, face, and neck" at a Morganville residence, just before 1 a.m. Monday.
Carl A. Richards, 38, has been charged with aggravated manslaughter in his death; the two both lived in the residence, according to Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago.

Marlboro Township Police went to a residence on Texas Road at 12:49 a.m. on New Year's Day, responding to a request for medical assistance for a man who had been assaulted. Officials said police found Mott unconscious, and first responders rushed him to Old Bridge Medical Center. He was pronounced dead at 1:49 a.m.
After an investigation, officials said that the two men had "a verbal dispute," with Richards physically assaulting Mott and "ultimately leading to his death."

Santiago said that Richards is being lodged in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution (MCCI), and had a first appearance scheduled in Superior Court on Friday. He is being represented by Antonio J. Toto, Esq.
