Marlboro Re-Signs Sister City Agreement With Nanto, Japan
The original agreement was signed in 1997 when Nanto was Johana.
On a trip to America, delegates from Nanto City, Japan stopped in Marlboro to visit with their Sister City of 22 years.
Nanto City became Marlboro's Sister City in 1997, under former Mayor Saul Hornik. Then, Nanto was Johana, until the two combined seven years ago in a mutual agreement.
Delegates from Japan stopped in Marlboro to thank the township for its donation last year after the Great East Japan Earthquake that devastated parts of the country in 2011.

"We were reminded yet again of the strong bond that ties together Nanto and Marlboro," Nanto Mayor Mikio Tanaka said.
During the visit, Mayor Jon Hornik and Tanaka re-signed the Sister City agreement, and Hornik declared Feb. 23 Youth Exchange Day.

"We strongly believe that our relationship will grow more lively with each continued youth exchange."
Since the 90's, students from Marlboro have been spending summers in Japan and students from Japan have spent summers in Marlboro.
