Marlboro Urges Vigilance About Car Thefts Amid Attempted Break-In

On Sunday night residents reported unknown subjects who were attempting to gain access to a vehicle, police said.

MARLBORO, NJ — Marlboro Township police are reminding residents of the importance of locking their vehicles and keeping key fobs and garage door openers inside their homes, amidst the area's ongoing problem with motor vehicle theft.

The Marlboro police alerted all residents after several residents in The Woods Development called 911 and reported unknown subjects who were attempting to gain access to a vehicle on Sunday night.

According to Marlboro police, the vehicle was locked and entry was not possible. The subjects fled the area and were apprehended shortly afterward. The four occupants of the vehicle, all of whom were Newark residents, were arrested and criminal charges were filed against them.

Marlboro police said the vehicle was impounded but did not respond to a Patch request for additional information.

“We would like to thank the residents who called and alerted us to this criminal activity. Together we are making a difference,” said police in a Facebook post.

The incident is still being investigated by the department's Detective Bureau.
