Severe Injuries In Single-Vehicle Crash On Route 18 In Marlboro
An Aberdeen man's pickup truck left the road on Route 18 north Friday morning and struck a tree; he was hospitalized with internal injuries.
MARLBORO, NJ — A 35-year-old Aberdeen man driving a pickup truck on Route 18 north yesterday morning was injured after his truck left the road and collided with a tree, police said.
The man, whom police did not identify Friday, had to be extricated by firefighters from the white Chevy pickup and suffered "major internal injuries," Capt. Stephen J. Levy said.
The man was flown by Medivac helicopter to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for treatment. He was the only occupant of the truck and no other cars were involved, Levy said.

The accident happened around 8:35 a.m., when police began receiving emergency calls about the accident on Route 18 near the area of Tennent Road.
Route 18 northbound lanes had to be closed in the area but were reopened at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Levy said.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and is being handled by Ptl. Brian Peterson of the Marlboro Traffic and Safety Bureau, Levy said. The driver first struck a sign before colliding with the tree.
