TELL US: Are Marlboro Classroom Sizes the Right Fit?

Marlboro schools are seeing a decline in enrollment, and empty classrooms.

Superintendent Dr. David Abbott said Marlboro schools are seeing a decline in enrollment, something he credits to the state of the economy and the housing market.

"When the housing industry corrects, this enrollment is going to go right back up," he said.

The 2012-23 projected enrollment is 5,387, a decrease of 537 students since 2003.

Abbott said that as long as he has been in Marlboro, the board has lived by a classroom size policy adopted years ago.

  • Kindergarten 19-23 students
  • Grades 1-3 20-24 students
  • Grades 4-5 23-26 students
  • Grades 6-8 24-27 students

"We have followed this policy in principal since before I got here," Abbott said.
