Arcadian Chorale to Hold Auditions in Matawan This Week
The 18-year-old group has performed at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall.
If you have a good singing voice and seek a challenging and fulfilling musical experience, you may want to check out the Arcadian Chorale, which will be auditioning new members this week.
Membership to the Arcadian Chorale is free, and rehearsals take place every Tuesday at 7 p.m. Auditions will be held Tuesday, Sept. 6 at the First Presbyterian Church of Matawan, and every Tuesday at 6 p.m. for the entire month of September.
With appearances at Lincoln Center, NJPAC and Carnegie Hall, the Arcadian Chorale represents Matawan’s music scene at a high level. The chorale has performed for 18 consecutive seasons and now has 60 members.

Marina Alexander is the Musical and Artistic Director of the Arcadian Chorale. Alexander is also the founder of the group, bringing it to life in 1993. Since founding the chorale, Alexander has gone on to direct the Richmond Choral Society. By 2001, the Arcadian Chorale was performing Beethoven’s 9th Symphony in New York City’s Carnegie Hall, and has since been back seven times.
The Arcadian Chorale’s mission statement reads, “To promote excellence in choral singing at the community level, and thereby make a vital contribution to the musical & cultural life of the community and to provide local residents with the opportunity to sing and perform choral music on an advanced level.”

The Arcadian Chorale performs twice per year, with a fall and a spring performance. Some of their featured musical pieces include Mozart’s Coronation Mass, Dvorak’s Te Deum and Poulenc’s Gloria. The chorale has additionally teamed with the Staten Island Philharmonic, performing Mozart’s Requiem in Asbury Park.
You can catch the Arcadian Chorale locally at the Count Basie Theater and the Two River Theater in Red Bank, and even rehearsing at the First Presbyterian Church of Matawan on Rt. 34 and Franklin St.
The group’s next performance will take place at the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, Oct. 24 at 3 p.m. They will be performing Beethoven’s 9th Symphony and Liszt’s Kantata on the Inauguration of the Beethoven Monument in Bonn, s. 67.
