Chester Company Donates Services to Help Leukemia-Stricken Morris Family

Creo Construction joins forces with Chatham business to help fix roof of Randolph home.

It’s a tale as old as they come, about neighbors helping neighbors and doing what’s right, regardless of cost.

When Mary Alice and Rich Shiller, of Randolph, called Creo Construction of Chester for new windows and siding, they ended up having a discussion about their neighbor.

Schiller told Creo’s Sam Courtright about Paige Shannon, their neighbor, whose daughter Rebecca has been battling leukemia since August 2012.

Courtright learned that the Shannon’s home had a leaky roof and had been under a financial and emotional toll for nearly three years.

Courtright returned to the office and spoke with his boss, John Creo, about the situation. Creo was not immune to the situation, either, having seen cancer’s toll in his own family.

At that point Creo told the Shannon family he’d like to replace the roof for free.

“We contacted Myles Kelly, a roofing materials distributor in Chatham, and they donated all the materials,” Creo said in a statement. “I wasn’t surprised that Kelly would make this generous donation, that’s just the kind of company they are.”

As a result of the roof leak, some interior walls were also damaged. When general contractor John Keane learned about the damage, he stepped in and repaired the walls at no charge.

“Had the Shillers not been looking out for their neighbor, we never would have known about the situation Paige was in,” said Courtright.

Possibly the best news from the situation has nothing to do with construction. Rebecca Shannon’s leukemia is officially in remission.
