Cops: Driver Was Reckless, Drunk

The following information was provided by the Mendham Township Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A 45-year-old Chester man was arrested after a motor vehicle stop on April 18, said.

Patrolman Jason Morrison conducted a motor vehicle stop of a 2003 Ford after observing the car failing to keep right, police said.

While Morrison was speaking with the operator of the vehicle, Aaron Armijo, the officer was able to detect the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from inside the vehicle, police said.

According to police, after being unable to perform standardized field sobriety tests  Armijo was arrested on a charge of suspicion of driving while intoxicated and transported back to Mendham Township Police Headquarters for chemical testing of his breath.

Armijo was able to provide an adequate sample of his breath that indicated he was driving while intoxicated, police said. Armijo was charged with DWI, reckless driving, failure to keep right, and failure to exhibit a registration card pending a May 2012 court date, police said. Armijo was released to an adult under John’s Law, police said.
