Extra Cheese, Topped With Drugs: Pizza Guy Was High On Delivery, Had Heroin and Crack, Cops Say

Rahi Patel was stopped for crossing over the center line, subsequently failed sobriety tests, leading to a search of his car, police report.

A Dover man working as a pizza delivery driver was arrested in Mendham Township recently when police found him allegedly driving while high on drugs and had a cache of assorted illegal substances in his car, Lt. Ross Johnson said.

At 6:25 p.m. on Feb. 12, Sgt. Matt Ambrosi was patrolling Mendham Road East when he stopped a vehicle for that had traveled over the center line multiple times and was driving abruptly, Johnson said.

Ambrosi spoke with the driver, identified as Rahi Patel, 26, of Dover, and learned he was delivering pizzas for a restaurant in Randolph, Johnson said.

The officer grew suspicious and believed Patel was driving under the influence of a narcotic, Johnson said. Patel was put through a series of road tests and subsequently arrested for driving under the influence of a narcotic, and a consent search was performed on the vehicle, Johnson said.

The search resulted in the finding of 11 hypodermic needles, five small glass bottles of anabolic steroids, two plastic bags of containing crack cocaine, and a bottle cap containing heroin residue.

Patel was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence, possession of cocaine, possession of anabolic steroids, and possession of a hypodermic needle.

Police do not believe Patel was delivering the drugs to any of the restaurant’s customers.
