Mendham Twp. Takes Next Step In Selling Pitney Farm
The town decided to sell the farm after the historic location was gutted by a fire.

MENDHAM TWP., NJ— After a February fire ripped through and destroyed centuries-old Pitney Farm, Mendham Township officials have made moves to sell the farm.
The next step in the process happened last Monday, when township officials voted unanimously to have an appraisal done on the property, local outlet the Observer-Time first reported.

Committee members voted to keep the cost below $5,000, and then hired Robert Schwartz, who will charge $3,000 for his work. No timeline was given at the meeting.
Before the Feb. 2016 fire, Township officials had voted against rezoning the 12-acre lot for possible development. Mendham Twp. took ownership of the property in 2009.

The house, which was built in 1722, was destroyed in the fire, including a partial structural collapse.
The Morris County Prosecutors said the fire was a result of a "human act."
