Morris Readers Rail on Target Policy Eliminating 'Boys' and 'Girls' Signage

Company announced this week it would make sections more neutral.

National retail chain Target publically announced earlier this week it would do away with much of its stores’ signage differentiating girls and boys products.

“Some guests have brought up some valid questions along the way of—was the level of signage that we had necessary? Did they actually help or was it something we should reconsider?” Molly Snyder, a Target spokeswoman, told Patch.

“There wasn’t really a defining moment necessarily, but we got to a point where we said, you know what, there are a few areas of the store where it just doesn’t make sense, where we just wanted to have a more gender-neutral approach.”

Readers in Morris County, where three Target stores are located – Washington Township, East Hanover, and Rockaway – aren’t too fond of the idea, though.

When Patch posted its story to social media this week, readers has no problem airing their opinions on the topic, much of which dissented from Target’s thought process.

“I think they are ridiculous. stop with the political correctness already.. God created Man and Women.. Not Manwom.. If he wanted one gender he would have created it that way.. Get real.. What about the people that are proud to be Man or Women.. So now you took away our choices. How is that good business,” said Patricia DelGaudio Wood.

“They are making a big deal out of nothing to appear hip and progressive. They are not going to change the fact that many toys are geared towards certain genders by the manufacturer. All that will happen is that it will take longer to find what you are looking for which they hope will result in you being there longer and perhaps buying more stuff,” said Beata Papp.

“Pretty soon there will be no more boys bathroom and girls bathrooms. No more boys locker rooms and girl locker looms. No more girls bikes and boys bikes. Where will it end? Peopl, we have more important issues to fret about,” said JJ Lassiter.

“don’t shop there, never will,” said Pam Liptak-Salimbene.

Single word comments of “Stupid!” and “Ridiculous!” raged throughout the threads.

Not everyone felt it was worth discussing, though.

“Its not a big business move… No other stores label their toy & bedding aisles. This is being blown way out of proportion,” said Hillary Werner.

“How will I know which clothes to buy for my son? (Joking),” said Autumn Bluestone Sharma.
