North Jersey Gas Station Accused of Putting Water in Fuel Tanks
Two motorists needed mechanic work after vehicles wouldn't start, police said.

A Hopatcong gas station is being accused of putting water in its holding tanks after two motorists had to bring their vehicles to mechanics earlier this week, Hopatcong Police said.
Police received two separate complaints on Monday, March 23, from Enrite Gas Station customers who claimed their cars would not run after fueling at the Hopatchung Road business, Lt. Thomas Kmetz said.
When the customers took their vehicles to their respective mechanics, both were found to have more than 50-percent of water in their gas tanks, Kmetz said.

Hopatcong police went to the gas station and spoke with an employee of TechSmart Service Group who was working on the pumps to find out why they were running slower than usual, Kmetz said. When police told the man about the customers’ claims, he checked the tanks and found between four and five inches of water in the “regular gas” holding tank, Kmetz said.
Police contacted Enrite’s owner, Mr. Singh of P&I Holdings Co., Inc in Linden, who said he did not know how water could be in the holding tank since it is newly built. Singh told police that anyone who has a problem with their vehicle as a result of the gas from Enrite to contact him with an estimate of the damage from the water being in their gas tanks.
