School STEM Expo Provides Impressive Learning Experience

Mendham Twp. Elementary School's STEM Expo provides students with an opportunity to demonstrate their investigative and analytical skills.

Mendham Township, NEW JERSEY (March 20, 2023) – Young, emerging scientists at Mendham Township Elementary School (MTES) provided an impressive array of experiments and exhibits at this year’s MTES STEM Expo which took place on Wednesday March 19, 2023. MTES offers a strong science program that strives to include multiple hands-on experiences and real-world demonstrations. Students are encouraged to take the initiative to investigate and to make reasoned, analytical conclusions as they accomplish key milestones throughout the school year in science, technology, and STEM classes.

The MTES STEM Expo was open to entry by all students from kindergarten through Grade 4. Students could choose any of the four available categories for their project:

  • Invention
  • Environmental Innovation
  • Scientific Inquiry/Experiment (like a "typical" science fair or research project)
  • Demonstration

With over ninety entries, the EXPO was a fantastic learning experience for both presenters and attendees. Students discussed the objective of the project, their research process, and conclusions. They were also prepared and poised as they fielded any questions about their exhibit. Faculty, staff, parents, and students were impressed with the choice of topics, the tremendous effort in researching and presenting results, and the students’ final exhibits.

I am so impressed by these young students and the interest and enthusiasm they bring to their projects,” said Michal Ferenc, MTES Assistant Principal. “The discoveries they are making for themselves and for sharing with a broader audience are fantastic. I am grateful to the faculty for their wonderful lesson plans and the instruction they provide to our students, and I extend a special ‘thank you’ to Mrs. Erica Parke and Mrs. Diane Barlow, Grade 4 - MTES Teachers, who chaired the STEM Expo.”
