Surveillance Photos Show Suspects in Morris Home Burglaries
Police in several towns working together to stop rash of break-ins.

In just the past week, six burglaries have been reported between Mendham Township, Morris Township, and Chester Township.
Surveillance photos released Wednesday show two different males entering a home during one of the burglaries, and police in contiguous Morris County towns are working together to thwart the criminals before the next home is broken into.
“Rest assured that we are working vigorously with contiguous Police agencies to apprehend the suspects involved,” said Mendham Township Police Chief Steve Crawford. “Our officers are fully aware of the issues and are taking a proactive approach to suspicious activity, persons and vehicles.”

Chester Township police announced Tuesday two homes in their jurisdiction were burglarized Monday night, one where homeowners where present. A week earlier, burglars entered two Mendham Township homes and a Morris Township home in the same night, stealing jewelry in the spree.
“It’s not a matter of if we’ll catch them,” Crawford said. “It’s just a matter of when.” Current investigation leads police to believe there are two men entering the home shown in the surveillance image, and another person acting as a driver in the getaway car.

Crawford offered a set of tips for homeowners to heed that could help avert potential burglaries, including:
- Make sure your doors and windows are locked when you are not at home
- Leave some lights on to give the appearance that someone is home
- If you have an alarm system set it
- Make sure all video surveillance equipment is operational
- If you observe a suspicious vehicle or person call the police without delay. It is better to call us and have us check it out then not
- Please take advantage of our Vacant Home Check program. If you are going on vacation or are going to be away for a couple of days on business, give us a call or stop in. We will make regular checks of your property while you are away
- If you discover that your house has been broken into, or an attempt has been made, do not enter the residence. Contact the police immediately. The less the scene is disturbed, the better our chances are of locating evidence
Anyone who sees a suspicious person, vehicles, or activity is urged to call 911 immediately.
