Mendham Township, NEW JERSEY (January 25, 2022) – Unofficial results indicate that voters likely approved the bond referendum for Mendham Township School District. The tally – based on votes submitted at the polls on Tuesday and mail-in ballots received by that day – shows 803 in favor and 285 opposed.

Additional mail-in ballots postmarked by January 25 and provisional ballots, if any, will be counted as the Morris County Clerk’s Office completes and verifies the results.

Voter approval means the district will now move forward with a $19.9 million plan to repair and renovate the district’s two schools with enhanced safety and security features, critical maintenance, and STEM instructional spaces. State aid will cover 37 percent of the project costs; that’s money that the township’s residents contribute to the state and now will get back to improve the schools.

It is gratifying to see that support reflected in the poll numbers.”

MTSD Superintendent Dr. Sal Constantino also thanked residents for their involvement, from learning about the proposed projects to showing their support at the polls.

“We worked hard to educate and engage the voters of Mendham Township, and they responded by taking the time to learn about the details through in-person fairs, virtual forums, and information on the district’s referendum website,” he said. “So much research and community engagement went into the planning for this bond proposal, and we were confident that a bond referendum was the most financially responsible and time-efficient approach to accomplish the district’s goals.”

With voter approval likely secured, the district now enters the planning phase of bond financing and competitive construction bids. Construction is expected to begin this summer.
