1,000+ Run Sandy Hook 5K, 10K Sunday

Sandy Hook, NJ - More than 1,000 runners braved some serious stiff wind blowing in off the Atlantic Sunday for the first-ever Run the Hook, a 5K and 10K road race around Sandy Hook/Gateway National Recreation Area, held Sunday, May 15 this year.
Both races started from Fort Hancock in Sandy Hook and weaved their way through the scenic, windswept beach park. Runners and fans got to sample local food trucks on hand after the race.
Run the Hook, which organizers hope to hold every year, was organized by two Monmouth County natives, Daragh Kneeshaw and Joey Garofalo. Proceeds from the $30/$40 race fees went to Clean Ocean Action, which helps protect the water quality along New Jersey and New York coastlines.

"Our hometowns and beaches have seen more than their fair share of hardships over these past several years, so it’s a thrill for us to be able to showcase Sandy Hook in our debut event," said Kneeshaw.
