Big Changes Coming to Several Monmouth/Middlesex County Bus Routes
NJ Transit is now making it easier to get to Brookdale Community College by bus.

Monmouth County, NJ - NJ Transit announced a series of dramatic changes Tuesday that will expand bus access to Brookdale Community College's campuses in Lincroft and Hazlet. (Brookdale has six locations in Monmouth County: Lincroft, Freehold, Wall, Long Branch, Hazlet and Neptune, but these bus changes only impact its Lincroft and Hazlet campuses.)
Brookdale's Lincroft campus is currently served by the 833 bus route running between Freehold and Red Bank. The 833 route currently runs every 70 minutes between 7:30 a.m. and 7:15 p.m. and provides no weekend service. Here are the changes coming in September:
- The 833 route will be combined with NJ Transit's 835 route to create a new 838 route, which will operate between the Freehold Raceway Mall and Sea Bright. The 838 route will run hourly, offering a “single-seat” ride to Lincroft or Freehold for residents commuting from Sea Bright, Rumson, Fair Haven and eastern Red Bank. The 838 will also operate between Sea Bright and Lincroft on Saturdays, running every 85 minutes.
- NJ Transit’s 832 bus route will also be extended to Brookdale, running hourly on weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The 832 will offer “single-seat” rides to Lincroft for residents commuting from Shrewsbury, Eatontown, Ocean Township, Neptune Township and Red Bank.
- NJ TRANSIT’s 817 route will be extended to Brookdale’s Hazlet campus, offering service to commuters from Perth Amboy, South Amboy, Old Bridge, Aberdeen, Keyport, Union Beach, Keansburg and Middletown. The 817 will also offer timed connections with the 834 line, providing service to commuters from Red Bank, Leonardo, Atlantic Highlands and Highlands.
All of the changes are set to begin in September and will come at no additional cost to riders or taxpayers.
