County to Reduce Speed on County Route 516

Cherry Tree Farm Road and Leonardville Road to See Reduced Speeds

I'd like to take a second to thank the leadership of the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders for taking the right step in reducing the speed limit on Cherry Tree Farm Road and Leonardville Road here in the Township.

For years I have advocated reducing the speed on these roads because they are located in residential areas. It never made sense to me how Leonardville Road could be 40 mph and turn into 35 mph once it turned into New Monmouth Road, despite the fact that they are both county roads.

As someone who lived on Leonardville Road in Belford, I could tell you first hand how dangerous the speed limit of 40 was. The accidents and near misses on neighbors' front lawns were hard to miss.

With half of the street containing sidewalks and the other not, pedestrian safety was also very compromised. The change will make the area safer for motorists, pedestrians, and homeowners in and around the immediate area.

I'm sure my friends on the Freeholder board will be happy to stop receiving my letters and constant questioning at every event about Leonardville and Cherry Tree Farm roads.   They are true leaders who listen to their local officials and residents and deserve the credit for getting the job done.  Now about that light on Cherry Tree Farm Road ...

We'll get that one to the top of the list.
