MIDDLETOWN, NJ — An electrical fire broke out Saturday morning at the Ideal Beach pumping station, which was working to clear water from the area in Saturday's early morning rainstorm.
The fire was first reported at 7:45 a.m. at the pumping station located at Carr Place, which is just off Seabreeze Avenue near Ideal Beach. Smoke could be seen coming from the pumping station. The fire is thought to have been caused by an electrical malfunction.
The pumping station was turned off right away when fire crews got there. The pumping station is maintained by Middletown Township and is used to clear rainwater from the low-lying area to prevent flooding. That's the pumping station pictured above.
