MIDDLETOWN, NJ — Ever pop into the Duck Donuts in Middletown? To celebrate National Donut Day on Friday, June 2, Duck Donuts is giving away free donuts. Customers will receive one free doughnut of their choice with any purchase.


Duck Donuts is a chain that started in Duck, North Carolina and currently has three locations in New Jersey: On Highway 35 in Middletown, in Green Brook Township (Somerset County) and on the Jersey Shore in Avalon.

Duck Donuts specializes in warm, made-to-order donuts. Customers can choose from a variety of topping combinations, like chocolate icing with sprinkles and maple icing with bacon. Duck Donuts was founded in 2006 by Russ DiGilio while he was on a family vacation, he says.

“Our family wanted a place to buy warm, delicious, made-to-order donuts, and when we couldn’t find one, we decided to start our own," he said.

National Donut Day, which is traditionally celebrated on the first Friday of June, was established in 1938 by the Chicago Salvation Army to honor women who served donuts to soldiers during World War I. Duck Donuts will also drop off donuts to The Salvation Army and other local businesses, schools, police stations, fire departments and more.

Additionally, receipts printed on June 2 will feature a coupon for a “Buy One Get One Free 1/2 Dozen,” redeemable Monday through Wednesday until August 31.
