Highlands Man ID'd As Person Killed By Train In Hazlet
The person hit and killed by an NJ Transit train Wednesday near Hazlet has been identified as David Candelino, a 30-year-old Highlands man.

HAZLET, NJ — The person hit and killed by an NJ Transit train Wednesday near Hazlet has been identified as David Candelino, a 30-year-old resident of Highlands, a spokeswoman for NJ Transit confirmed to Patch Friday afternoon.
He was hit by a train at 9:40 p.m. Wednesday night, June 5. The North Jersey Coast Line train was near the Centerville Road crossing in Hazlet when it struck the man on the tracks, according to NJ Transit.
The transit agency defined his death as someone trespassing on the tracks.

The train was on its way from Long Branch to New York Penn Station; it had just left Long Branch at 9:12 p.m. The service was suspended for about three hours due to the fatality.
Seventy people were aboard the train, which was originally scheduled to arrive in New York at 10:49 p.m., according to NJ Transit. No one was injured on the train.

Candelino's death is currently being handled by the Monmouth County Medical Examiner's Office.
