'Hobby Lobby' Store Coming to Marlboro

Craft and DIY store Hobby Lobby will fill the entire empty Pathmark on Route 9 in Marlboro.

Big box craft store Hobby Lobby will be hiring co-managers and hourly workers in preparation for anticipated opening its newest location in Marlboro Township, in the empty Pathmark store at Routes 9 and 520.

According to Marlboro zoning and code enforcer Sarah Paris, craft and DIY store Hobby Lobby is working to fill the entire empty store.

Hobby Lobby carries seasonal items, home decor, art, craft and hobby supplies, custom picture framing and more.

Its corporate website lists job opportunities for the Marlboro store, though an opening date for the store  has not yet been announced. Co-managers must apply online.

The company does not take online applications for hourly positions, so once the store is open applicants should make their interest known in person at Marlboro. Hourly positons include: cashier, stocker, office manager, department head and floral designer.

Independent class instructors are encouraged to apply in person once the store is open. Hobby Lobby classes include jewelry making, knitting, floral design, papercrafting, and more.

Hobby Lobby is an arts and crafts chain controlled by billionaire David Green and family in Oklahoma City with 13,000 employees and 525 big-box stores in the United States as of March, 2013. It is the third location to open in New Jersey. The other two stores are in South Plainfield and Millville. Store hours are Monday through Saturday, 9am to 8pm and they are closed on Sunday, according to their corporate website.

The company also runs Mardel, a large chain of Christian bookstores. The company is challenging a requirement in President Barack Obama's revised healthcare legislation that some companies must give insurance coverage for contraception drugs and devices.  In December, Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor refused to block the mandate. The company was told it could continue its challenge in lower courts.
