Kerry Washington Will Film Her Next Netflix Series In Middletown

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — Middletown will be the location for yet another Netflix show this spring:

Kerry Washington will be in Middletown in April or May for the filming of her latest, a Netflix original series called An Innocent Girl. It's described as "a Netflix Original erotic thriller" and it's about a young woman who is seduced by a Washington, D.C. power couple, the vice president (Washington) and her husband.

"Fresh-out-of-Harvard idealist Sophie Walker arrives in Washington determined to change the world, only to be seduced by a high-powered D.C. couple — the Vice President and her husband — and drawn into a clandestine affair that plunges her into a dangerous web of sex, power and murder," is how Netflix describes it.

Washington plays the role of the Vice President. She's also one of the show's executive producers. James Marsden plays her husband, and Chloe East is the young Harvard grad. It will be released to Netflix in 2027.

Filming is expected to start in April and will mostly be done in the area of Navesink River Road, the wealthiest section of Middletown, of estate homes on the river (Gov. Phil Murphy lives off Navesink River Road, as does rock star Jon Bon Jovi). That's where the Jennifer Lopez movie, "The Last Mrs. Parrish" filmed over several weeks in October 2025. That filming took place along Navesink River Road, McClees Road and Sailors Way last fall.

Adam Driver is scheduled to start filming his Netflix thriller series "Rabbit, Rabbit" in Middletown next week. As we reported Thursday, filming will take place at the fake gas station that's been constructed in the Circus Liquors parking lot on Rt. 35. Driver plays a truck driver who kidnaps people.

The Bruce Springsteen biopic "Deliver Me From Nowhere" filmed in Monmouth County last year (mostly in Asbury Park and Freehold), and the Bob Dylan biopic "A Complete Unknown," filmed at Bahrs waterfront restaurant and the Count Basie theater in Red Bank in the spring of 2024.

"Mean Girls: The Musical" filmed in 2023 on the old Mater Dei Catholic high school campus in Middletown. The Mater Dei high school building has since been torn down, and is now a public park, called Mater Dei Park.
