“Suspending a search is one of the most difficult decisions we have to make,” said Cmdr. Brian Murphy, Sector New York search and rescue mission coordinator. "After heavily saturating the area with Coast Guard and partner agency assets, we have suspended the active search. We will resume searching if any new information is obtained which would assist us in locating the missing kite surfer.”
The news comes after police reported Friday that two more people died in this week, becoming the 26th and 27th people to die in New Jersey waters this summer. The deaths have prompted calls for people to use better common sense and lawmakers to search for ways to better protect swimmers.
