Middletown Man Wins 1st Place In Red Bank Classic 5K

RED BANK, NJ — A Middletown man came in first place in the Red Bank Classic 5K this past weekend, smashing a previous record for the well-known road race.

Sean Donohue, 31, of Middletown, was the first across the finish line, running the 3.1-mile race in 15 minutes and 38 seconds, smashing the previous Red Bank Classic record of 16:17.

Leading the women's field was 28-year-old Shannon McCarthy, of Hoboken, clocking in at a record-breaking 17:34, also a new record for women.

Both Donohue and McCarthy set new course records for men and women in the course, said Red Bank Classic organizers. The Red Bank Classic is described as a "challenging course," and the race is certified by USA Track and Field.

Donohue was followed by Ryan Mulligan, 32, of Hazlet in 16:22, and Ean Jaffe, 21 of Holmdel, in 16:39.

The second-place female finisher was Megan Flynn, 29, of Ringoes, in 18:23, followed by Erika Flores, 32, of South Bound Brook, at 18:39.

Those were the top runners out of more than 1,400 runners and walkers who participated this past Saturday. The race benefits youth programs at the local Red Bank YMCA.
