Middletown Veterans Donate $500 to Belford Doughboy
Tom Garretson and Dennis Beauregard presented the $500 check to help fund restoration of the Belford doughboy.

MIDDLETOWN, NJ - Friends of the Veterans Affairs Committee gave a $500 donation last month to help fund restoration of the Belford doughboy, the World War I monument on Church Street in Belford.
The donation, coupled with another for $1,000 from American Legion 338, will be used to help restore the circa 1930s statue. The project, scheduled to get underway, this year will include repairs to the life-size doughboy statue. The bronze doughboy contains the names of several dozen WWI veterans from Belford, Port Monmouth & New Monmouth.
The check was presented by VAC members Tom Garretson and Dennis Beauregard. American Legion Post 338 in Leonardo is responsible for maintaining the small lot and statue, and they say the doughboy is badly in need of repairs.
