Middletown's Howie Brey Awarded Big Ten Pitcher of the Week
Middletown's own Howie Brey was awarded Big Ten Pitcher of the Week, Rutgers announced on Monday.

Middletown, NJ - After throwing a complete game to lead Rutgers baseball to a series-opening win over Indiana last Friday, Middletown's own, pitcher Howie Brey, was awarded Big Ten Pitcher of the Week, Rutgers University announced Monday. The last time a Scarlet Knight won a weekly league pitching award was April 1, 2013 when Tyler Gebler earned Big East Pitcher of the Week.
Brey, a senior at Rutgers and team captain, played varsity baseball at Middletown High School South. While at MHS, he earned First Team All-Conference honors as a senior and was named Monmouth County pitcher of the year in 2012.
“Howie gives us a chance to win every time he steps on the mound,” Rutgers baseball head coach Joe Litterio said. “He set the tone for the weekend on Friday with an ace performance. This is a well-deserved honor.”
